thanks for your request, it seems this is also part of "Material You" (related issue #18)

the steps to implement this are here:
https://developer.android.com/about/versions/13/features#themed-app-icons

seems to be doable

(offtopic: I am not sure about the moves of google with these monochrome icons, doesn't it make it harder to recognize app icons?)

Google's themed icons on the Pixel Launcher apply solely to icons pinned to the home screen, not those in the app drawer. Consequently, frequently used apps with themed icons blend seamlessly with the Android color theme, while unthemed app icons appear out of place and often don't get pinned on the home screen.
