localization support

hi team, I'd like to allow translation of this website and I do know how to make this happen.

I can store the translations in this repository or in a dedicated repository (it may create a log of files & commits), whatever works for you

This may also have a minor issue on how to deploy the website.

Where should I go to discuss the matter?

We don't have translations set up right now, we're pretty sure hugo can support them though. It would be the same repo. If you wanted to take this on, we'd be open to merging your changes! It's pretty low on our priority list to work on ourselves, what with the writing drivers and all. (This is despite like 4 languages just between marcan and me :p)

Cool, then I'll do a poc and show it to you. Can I use fedora weblate server at least for the poc? You'll be able to user whatever server you want afterward if this doesn't suit you, it is just easier for me. Jean-Baptiste

Some times ago, I wrote PR #55, which was an attempt at implementing multilingual support using Hugo. However, it was not merged and I didn't update it since then. It is quite old now, but maybe looking at it could help you to achieve your goal. If you need any help, I could assist you with this and we can update the PR!

this PR #55 allows multilingual, but it doesn't make it easy to contribute AsahiLinux translation.
This system won't scale since it requires each translator to come and translate each file, I suggest not to merge this pull request as is.

Suggestion:

• take from this MR what relates to internationalization (everything but the French translation)
• automate content extraction and content generation for Weblate
• automate translated website from weblate content

Note: you should be able to reuse your done translation using po4a-gettextize

Thank you for your suggestions! I didn't know about Weblate, but it does seem like a great fit for handling translations collaboratively in open-source projects. Now that I see your approach, your initial messages in this issue make a lot more sense.

After looking at your work in the repository you shared, I think you're better suited to setting up Weblate since you have more experience with it. Given that, I could close my PR so you can take the lead on implementing this solution. Once it's set up, I would be happy to contribute to the French translations!
