Generated: 2026-03-30 Status: Phase 1 Infrastructure Complete ✅
- npm package configuration with TypeScript + ESM
- Build system using tsup
- Test framework (vitest) with sample tests
- Git ignore configuration
- Directory structure following the plan
- Workspace initialization and loading
- Metadata storage in
.deckuse/metadata.json - Status checking and validation
- Index management for slides, shapes, and layouts
- Parser for selector expressions
- Resolver to find targets in workspace
- Supported syntax:
slide:3- indexed selectionslide:3/title- path-based selectionshape[type=textbox]- filtered selectiontext[contains('keyword')]- text search
- Complete type definitions for all core concepts
- Interfaces for workspace, slides, shapes, selectors, etc.
- Custom error classes with clear messages
- Specific errors for different failure scenarios
- Configurable logging utility
- Support for different log levels
All commands have scaffolding in place:
Core Workflow:
init- Initialize workspace from PPTXstatus- Show workspace statuscommit- Build PPTX from workspace
Read Commands:
list slides- List all slidesshow slide- Show slide detailsget text- Get text content
Write Commands (S0 - Safe Operations):
set text- Replace text in shapesreplace text- Global find and replaceset font-size- Set font size
- Commander-based CLI (
src/cli.ts) - All commands registered and working
- Proper error handling and user feedback
- Binary entry point configured
- Unit tests for selector parsing
- Unit tests for workspace management
- Integration test scaffold (skipped until PPTX libraries available)
- All tests passing ✅
The following components have placeholder implementations and need actual library integration:
Status: Stub implementation, returns empty/null data
Needs:
- Integration with
@deckflow/presentation(or alternative PPTX library) - Actual reading of:
- Slide structure
- Shape information
- Text content
- Metadata
Status: Stub implementation, no-op methods
Needs:
- Integration with
@deckflow/pptx-modifier(or alternative PPTX library) - Actual implementation of:
- Text modification
- Font property changes
- Shape geometry updates
- XML file updates
From the README, these commands are not yet implemented:
Diagnostic Commands:
validate- Validate PPTX structuredoctor- Run heuristic checksinspect- Show PPTX overviewtree- Show object treefind- Search contentquery- Complex selector queriesstats- Deck-wide statistics
Additional S0 Commands:
clear textset run-textset font-familyset font-colorset bold/italic/underlineset paragraph-alignset bullet/indent/line-spacingmove/set positionresize/rotate/flip
S1 Commands:
- All fill/line/z-order commands
- Image manipulation commands
- Notes commands
S2 Commands:
- All destructive operations with confirmation
Problem: The specified libraries don't exist in npm:
@deckflow/presentation@deckflow/pptx-modifier
Options:
Option A: Find the correct library names
- Are these libraries published under different names?
- Are they private packages?
- Do they need to be built from source?
Option B: Use alternative PPTX libraries
- PptxGenJS - Popular PPTX generation library
- officegen - Office document generation
- node-pptx - PPTX manipulation
- Direct XML manipulation using JSZip + xml2js
Recommendation: Determine if @deckflow/* packages exist or choose an alternative approach.
Once libraries are available:
-
Update PptxReader:
- Implement
readSlides()to extract slide information - Implement
readShapes()to get shape data - Implement
readText()to extract text - Update
buildIndexes()in init command
- Implement
-
Update PptxWriter:
- Implement
setText()for text modification - Implement
setFontSize()and other font operations - Implement
replaceText()for find/replace - Implement
save()to persist changes
- Implement
-
Test Full Workflow:
- Create test PPTX file
- Test:
init→set text→commit - Verify output PPTX opens correctly
After core operations work:
- Add remaining S0 commands (font, paragraph, geometry)
- Add diagnostic commands (validate, doctor, inspect)
- Add S1 commands (fill, line, z-order)
- Add S2 commands with confirmation
- Add API usage examples to README
- Create command reference documentation
- Add troubleshooting guide

PPTX Library Documentation: Do you have API documentation for
@deckflow/presentationand@deckflow/pptx-modifier? This is needed to implement the reader/writer classes. -
Priority Commands: Which commands should be implemented first after the core PPTX integration?
-
Testing: Do you have sample PPTX files we can use for testing?
The DeckUse project infrastructure is complete and working. The architecture is solid, type-safe, and ready for PPTX library integration. Once the PPTX reading/writing libraries are integrated, the project will be fully functional for the Phase 1 scope (core workflow + basic read/write commands).
All code is:
- ✅ Type-safe (strict TypeScript)
- ✅ Well-structured and modular
- ✅ Tested (where possible without PPTX libs)
- ✅ Documented with inline comments
- ✅ Ready for PPTX integration
