Currently, we seem to be using a set of broken demographic layers in our EmergencyOperations map service to drive the demographic layers. It seems like SampleServer6 has a functional map service for demographic data, although it may still be outdated.

These are our layers in the EmergencyOperations Map Service, they don't seem to be up to date/working:

What we should do is update the widget so that it pulls in a service from ArcGIS Online. We may want to explore data being released as part of Community Analyst. We could include a sample service, but we want users to be able to go to the configuration page of the widget and pull in whatever demographic service they want.

based on the doc I've written, we need to find a place in the configuration page for people to enter demographic layers

It might make the most sense to document the use of the Chart widget so that people can understand the impact of the Initial Isolation and Protective Action Zones on the local population.

Below are the steps we could document to inform users how to do this:

  1. Make sure demographic data has been loaded into the web map that drives the app.
  2. Create the Zones in the ERG widget.
  3. Open the Chart widget and draw a selection area on top of the zone graphics
  4. Configure the chart widget to showcase data from the demographic feature layer in the selected area.

I think that we should document this workflow in both the getting started topic and the using the ERG topic, probably as a note. Thoughts?

@adgiles feel free to add to this as this is what you and I discussed this morning.

Screenshot below for reference, you'll see that the census block group in the affected ERG zone is being picked up by the chart widget, the chart widget will then give visualizations.

I think that the infographic widget could also serve a similar purpose

not including demographic analysis at this release, moving to version after next.

I don't think this issue is valid anymore with how we have designed the widget. The widget should be used in conjunction with the situation awareness widget and use the power of the feature actions that this widget provides. So the workflow would be similar to:

Create your ERG Zones:

step1

Select the feature you want to find the demographics for and click the ... to access the feature action. Select Set Location:

step2

Depending on how you have configured the Situation Analysis widget will depend on what results you will get shown:

step3

This is a good example of how we could build a Solutions around this widget or this workflow using the widget.

We should work with @NikkiGolding and have a good State and EM approach to this issue. Having her input on this issue is very much needed to make sure we do not duplicate efforts.
