Action Performed:

1. Go to staging.new.expensify.com
2. Go to workspace chat.
3. Create two expenses with foreign currency.
4. Open the expense report.
5. Click Columns.
6. Select Exchange rate and click Save.
7. Scroll the table to Exchange rate.

Expected Result:

Exchange rate field will show the exchange rate.

Actual Result:

Exchange rate field is blank.

PR #82904 introduced custom column selection for expense reports but broke the exchange rate column display. The PR changed the column selection logic to use user preferences, but when users customize columns or when default columns are used, the EXCHANGE_RATE column is not included, causing it to show blank even when data exists.

Evidence

PR #82904 added a feature to allow users to customize which columns appear in expense report views. The PR modified MoneyRequestReportTransactionList.tsx to pass user-selected columns to the getColumnsToShow() function.

Key change in the PR (line 266 of MoneyRequestReportTransactionList.tsx):

// Before (passed empty array):
getColumnsToShow(currentUserDetails?.accountID, transactions, [], true, ...)

// After (passed user preferences):
getColumnsToShow(currentUserDetails?.accountID, transactions, (reportDetailsColumns ?? []) as SearchCustomColumnIds[], true, ...)

This change causes the exchange rate column to not be displayed because:

1. The default columns defined in CONST.SEARCH.TYPE_DEFAULT_COLUMNS.EXPENSE do not include EXCHANGE_RATE
2. When reportDetailsColumns is empty (user hasn't customized yet), the function falls back to showing only columns with data, but the logic in SearchUIUtils.ts line 4232 only adds custom columns if they're explicitly in the filtered list
3. EXCHANGE_RATE is included in CONST.SEARCH.REPORT_DETAILS_CUSTOM_COLUMNS but not in the default set, so it won't show unless explicitly selected

Verification

The PR modifies these key files that handle column display:

• src/components/MoneyRequestReportView/MoneyRequestReportTransactionList.tsx - Passes user column preferences
• src/libs/SearchUIUtils.ts - Updated to handle report details custom columns
• src/CONST/index.ts - Added REPORT_DETAILS_CUSTOM_COLUMNS which includes EXCHANGE_RATE

The exchange rate data is fetched correctly (via getExchangeRate()), but the column itself is not rendered because it's not in the columnsToShow array returned by getColumnsToShow().

Root Cause

The column selection logic doesn't properly handle the exchange rate column when:

1. User hasn't customized columns yet (reportDetailsColumns is empty/undefined)
2. User has customized columns but didn't explicitly select exchange rate

The previous behavior (passing empty array) would dynamically show columns based on data presence. The new behavior requires explicit column selection, but the defaults don't include exchange rate.
