Folders incorrectly shown as files

Steps to reproduce the bug

1. Go to file manager
2. Open folder on internal storage (here: "Sync")
3. Navigate to subfolder (here "Backup Einstellungen")
4. Multiple sub-subfolders (e.g. "Calibre") does not appear as folder but is shown as a file (see attached image)

Expected behavior

Folders are correctly recognized and are displayed accordingly. Folders can be accessed via Fossify File Manager.

Actual behavior

Multiple, but not all folders within the same directory are displayed as files and cannot be accessed.

Additional information

1. All affected folders have a shown "file" size of 3.4 KB
2. They cannot be accessed from Fossify File Manager
3. Stock file manager of OS shows them correctly (see second image); content is accessible
4. Renaming of affected folders (or parent folder) solves the issue
5. Moving to a different location (e.g. new folder within same directory) also solves the issue
6. Potentially relevant: Directory and all subfolders are synced between phone and PC via Syncthing.
7. Whether the same issue was already present in Simple File Manager is unknown

I am seeing this same issue on Android 15 (Nothing Phone 2, rooted but stock). It used to work just fine, but now it is not on all versions of the app. I try to rename the folder as stated here, but it locks up everything and leaves a "tempXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" (X replaced with numbers) folder.

Edit: Never mind the lock up. That is mostly because I am trying to rename a 30 GB folder. The smaller folders renamed fast without issues.

Edit 2: I did uninstall the app and install version 1.0.0, which I did not have this issue with. It still had the issue. Renaming all the folders to add a "2" at the end and then removing it made them folders again. I am back on 1.1.0

This bug affects Samsung S23 Android 15 OneUI 7 (download via Google Play Store).

Folders inside "Android > media" are displayed as files and cannot be opened.

Same here, with an Fairphone 5, android 15.
I had andoird 14 a few days ago and didn't have this problem.
since the update, things are broken and some folders are shown as files. (hidden folders starting with a dot, system folders, app folders...)

Just noticed recently that I'm experiencing the same bug on my drawing tablet. For some reason it's affecting three of my four art folders exclusively.

I don't know if it's been like this since the last Android update but here are my current specs:

Android 15 | Lenovo ZUI 17.0.165
Lenovo Tab P12 | 256 GB storage | 8 GB RAM

Folders are stored exclusively on my microSD card (256 GB), tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app to see if it would fix anything. Not sure what else to do.

Edit to add: Installed through the Google Play Store.
