It took me a while to figure out that the button has to be double-clicked. There is no clear reference for this, and it is not very intuitive. I don't know what the possibilities are for the app grid, is there a way to replace it for example with one click and a confirmation dialog?

I'm considering an option for the button configuration as a workaround. Similar to the "close ws" button.

As a suggestion, the place where the delete icon is currently placed is visually the most prominent spot in the folder. This makes the icon attract a lot of attention, while in most usage scenarios the button will be one of the least used by users.

It might feel more intuitive if on that left spot a back-arrow (←) icon would be placed to go back to the previous screen, which functions as the (x) icon currently on the right. And then place the delete icon on the spot where the (x) is currently placed.

In my opinion this is very good concept!

I've moved the 'Delete' button to the left and added a 'Close' button to prevent users from accidentally clicking 'Delete' when they want to close the folder popup.

Yes that is understandable. The tricky thing perhaps is that top-left is not the most intuitive location for a Delete icon, since it is such a prominent place in the window. Usually that location is reserved for e.g. a Home or Back button.
