minidom is the quickest and pretty straight forward:

I just found this but it seems a bit hackish, however they say tried it on *nix and I did on windows and it worked.

You could use a library called requests.
import requests
r = requests.get("http://example.com/foo/bar")
This is quite easy. Then you can do like this:

>>> print r.headers
>>> print r.content
