It is now a known fact that the Neptune color images presented everywhere were not in true color and, in fact, it looks more like Uranus (makes sense since their atmospheres are very similar in composition).
A very quick image search revealed some updated texture maps. I have used one of them for the comparisons below (DeviantArt link). If licensing proves to be a problem maybe we could edit the RGB levels of the current Neptune texture to desaturate the colors.

(I also think that the texture orientation should be flipped vertically, the blue spot is shown in many pictured to be on the south hemisphere but I may be wrong...)
