Publishing breaking change as 1.0

The build artifacts continue to expire and thus the latest version is not usable. Please consider publishing one of the artifacts as a v1.0 with a breaking change notice. Possibly even mark it as "beta" but that feels excessive since the plugin works, there is just a possible data loss issue for people upgrading the plugin. I think it is much more likely new-comers are gated from adopting this plugin due to lack of a published version.

Just out of curiosity, what needs to be published? I've built the master branch (locally and on CI after forking) using the packaging script and this doesn't seem to solve the fact that there's a dependency requirement not listed anywhere, i.e. having oscrypto that depends on having libcrypto (packaged in openssl).
IMHO nothing is solved in any of the branches.

I'm not sure what you mean with that. Calibre comes with libcrypto by default, and oscrypto gets bundled into the plugin ZIP file when running the packaging script. In the end, when running the script on the master branch, that should result in a ZIP file that can be installed in Calibre, using the libcrypto that comes with Calibre.

The reason why this is not published yet is that there's issues when updating from 0.0.16 to 0.1.0 that I haven't been able to fix yet.

But given that the 0.0.16 seems to break for more and more people due to how old it is, maybe I should just publish 0.1.0 as-is and tell people to reinstall it if there's issues during the update ...

I guess you're right, I've checked the zip produced by the CI and it seems to contain it. I still don't know why installation fails claiming oscrypto doesn't exist:

I forked this project and pushed a dummy file to kick off a build. That worked fine. I run NixOS which required me to add a small adjustment to my configs because of oscypto and another dependency. There are other threads here with the same issue on NixOS systems. Warning, this will cause Calibre to compile on your system as the pre-built binaries will have a cache-miss with this alteration. It doesn't take long though.

Sidenote for the Nix users: you can avoid locally building Calibre by creating a separate package with symlinkJoin:
