[FeatureRequest] Notifications for admin (important)

Luke :) As they say, life writes its own stories. That’s why I’m writing this Feature Request. I dare say it’s a critical one.

What happened: critical updates for Synology were released. I installed the update, thinking everything would be fine. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.

I mount my NAS drives using scripts, not via the DSM system. I didn’t know the system would do this, but it deleted the contents of the /mnt directory. Because of that, the NAS drives didn’t mount back, and I had no idea it had happened.

Question: Why doesn’t something as great as Emby, not have notifications?

Solution: (ideally as a high priority) add notifications (mail, sms, call HTTP GET request, push to app, ... ???)— at least for common operational issues such as low memory, poor performance, failed NFS link/mount, detected multiple login attempts, etc.

Future: push notifications to the mobile app (iOS/Android) for users who have server management privileges enabled.

#3943 - global messages for users - like a maintenance messages are red, I can imagine a orange messages on homepage (or anywhere on top?) + one time dismissible messages on TV for users, when admin just want, to inform users about anything important (low performance, partial content shortage, future maintenance ,... ). This FR is about to make a really visible (dismissible) notification, when admin need it.

This #3946 FR is about live notifications for admins, about server/production problems.

As I say, I wasn't know, that latest updates caused to not mount all external NAS, which causes more than 26TB of content was not available. 26TB for now. Adding of new NAS is in progress.

For me - top ideally is to add a function to add a call for HTTP GET request, as I am using system for immediately SMS send via my own system. If not possible - mail send is also good.

Who will send the notification? Emby itself.

Performance monitoring: As I’ve seen myself, Emby can display progress while decoding video. If the progress falls significantly behind the actual playback/edge, it should send a notification — so the admin at least knows there’s not enough performance, or that the given content should be pre-converted. Or they can check the logs.

Emby could also monitor RAM usage. If it stays above a configurable limit for a long time, it should warn the admin to prevent a decrease in user experience.

What happened today occurred during boot. This should be configurable: whether a notification is sent when a single item is missing, or when many/all items are missing. If more than three titles from one folder/share disappear, it may indicate a problem — for example, the entire NAS not being accessible.

Security: If a malicious actor attempts to log in more than X times, notify the admin.

Should I continue? With pleasure — I can go through all of Emby and write up everything that would be suitable for immediate admin notifications.
