Volume Numbers of Batman TPBs

Hey @bpepple, curious why you changed the volume numbers of some of the Trade Paperbacks on the Batman TPBs I added.
Is it something I'm missing?

The volume number needs to be distinct for a series to be added. So, in the case of the first series of TPB you added, it was the second TPB volume to be named "Batman". The next one you added was the third, for example you can look at how GCD added them (you'll need to look at the series detail to see whether it's a TPB or HC).

I don't see it that way, logically it's the same as a series that has multiple volumes, which isn't necessary a continuation of the prior volumes.

I know it doesn't necessarily mean a continuation of prior volumes but I would expect that kind of volume numbering with Single Issue Series like Batman V1 (1940), Batman V2 (2011) and Batman v3 (2016) but not with series of type Trade Paperback.

That's ok though. I understand your reasoning behind it and I don't really think volume numbering for Trade Paperback series types matters anyway.

@bpepple , so does this mean when adding Trade Paperback/ Hardcover Series I have to check the ones that have been added to ensure volume numbering doesn't conflict and also make sure to account for those that haven't been added if I want to add a more recent Trade Paperback series? Sounds tedious

In general, adding TPB's is very tedious since each Publisher seems to do there own thing and there is a lot of verification that needs to be done with them.

I'm giving serious thought about putting an embargo on new TPB's until better documentation is written, since I'm spending a lot of time answering questions about them (it's not just you) lately.

Hey @bpepple , I saw that you were adding Batman TPB (2013) as well even though Batman HC (2012). I know they are different I just didn't think you'd consider that. Also does that follow the volume numbering constraints?

Hey @bpepple , I wanted to bring this up to you again to know the way forward.

I was trying out this amazing tool by @Buried-In-Code , Perdoo, that organizes one's collection using metadata from Metron and a MetronInfo.xml to create folders and rename comic files but with the current volume numbering, Perdoo will but Batman TPB (2017) which is Volume 2 in Metron in the same folder as Batman (2011) Single Issue Series which is also a volume 2.

I've raised and issue in that repo to also use Series StartYear in renaming for some distinction to be made but I thing this also shows a flaw in the volume numbering for collections in Metron.

What do you think?

I think using the series start year is pretty horrible due to how often multiple series start in the same year.

Why not append to the parent folder something like this for TPB's:

Currently Perdoo intentionally puts TPB and Single Issues in the same folder if they are the same volume as when it was originally created Metron wasn't a thing and I mainly used League-of-Comic-Geeks as my information source and that is how LoCG stores there comics. However I intend to eventually change it, separating out each of the formats as there are too many collisions like this.
