Stock quote for London Stock Exchange returns Invalid API Data not found

Hi, I am new, sorry if it is a very dumb question. How does one analyze a portfolio with stocks from several countries? I have no problems with getting data for US stocks, but UK ones are returning errors or NAN values. Even such basic ones as Rollce Royce and BP.

I use tickers RR.L and BP.L. I can load data from Yahoo Finance and plot using candle command, but quote returns Invalid API Data not found. Quote requests data from financialmodelingprep

This is not a dumb question at all – you’re just hitting a limitation of the default data provider for quote.
The quote command is using Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) under the hood, and FMP does not cover London‑listed symbols with the .L suffix in the same way Yahoo Finance does. That’s why: candle works for RR.L and BP.L (it goes to Yahoo Finance / yfinance, which supports LSE), but quote returns Invalid API Data not found because FMP has no data for those tickers.
To work with UK names in a multi‑country portfolio you have a few options: Use the Yahoo Finance provider for price data wherever possible (e.g., via the Python API or commands that already support yfinance) and rely on candle/historical functions instead of quote for UK stocks.
If you specifically need a “quote‑like” snapshot for LSE names, pull it from yfinance (or another provider that supports LSE) and ignore FMP for those tickers.
If you have an FMP subscription with LSE coverage and it still fails, double‑check your FMP entitlements and API key; if the symbols are still missing from their universe, it’s a data‑coverage issue on the provider side rather than an OpenBB bug.
In short, nothing is wrong with your portfolio setup – you just need to mix providers: Yahoo for UK tickers, FMP or others for US, depending on where coverage exists.
