PostGIS is not suitable as an alternative to a FILE format. |
It would have to be SQL Dump in this case. But you can not work with the data directly, they would have to be imported first, therefore it's not suitable IMHO. |
ah but if you are using shapefiles to locally edit data that you export to some other format postgis WOULD be an alternative |
You're listing ESRI GeoDatabase as an alternative (which can use various back-ends including PostgreSQL), so related to #7 I think there needs to be clarification of ESRI GeoDatabase vs Personal Geodatabase. More broadly, if you have a database then why would you need a file? I think this is an excellent opportunity to inform the community about PostGIS, even if this is not the use case for everyone. Related to #10 I think there needs to perhaps be different sections for different uses; e.g. data transfer, editing etc? |
