Issue - Enhancement

In order to release the Public Teams to all. We discussed the following plan during this meeting 🔒.

Acceptance Criteria (optional)

All existing teams before this feature is released are marked as:

  • Private: only members can see that this team exists

Users can:

  • Navigate to their team settings and set a team as:
    • Closed: anybody can see that this Team exists, and request to join
    • Also: consider changing the "Public Teams" copy on the dash to be "Other teams"

Estimated effort: 11 points (see CONTRIBUTING.md)

The biggest most important part of this feature didn't get implemented yet so I wanted to at least have a discussion on it. It's not enough to see a team name on the left nav. Users should be able to join a public team inside their org without an invitation. This adds teeth & encourages upgrades. Hiding the team name "Private layoff team" on the left nav isn't toothy enough.

So we've got 2 types:

  1. public. they show up on left nav & you can join them without an invitation if you're in the organization. This is the default for all new teams
  2. private. does not show up on left nav, you must receive an invitation to join. all current teams are grandfathered in as private. in the team settings page, we add a warning saying moving from private to public can't be undone without upgrading if they are on the free tier.

Looking for thoughts here!
