I recently discovered a possible user pain point through my own use of the app, which is the inability to peek at course details from courses that have already been organized into the semester blocks.
Given the below course plan, let's say that I'm very unfamiliar with the courses because I haven't taken them yet. I want to quickly peek at at least the descriptions of each course in the list so I can refresh myself on what I'm planning on taking. But there's no way to do this besides manually searching for each course in the course catalog, which involves a lot of typing and scrolling to find the correct match.
Miranda and I discussed a possible drawer UI for showing a single course's details, similar to the image below. The idea is that a button would be added to every course in the semester blocks that would cause a drawer to slide in from the left, eclipsing the course catalog and revealing the details of the desired course.
On mobile, this would be a drawer that slides up and down starting from the bottom of the screen.
We also discussed in the Discord that since this would introduce a second way of viewing course data, it would be good to repurpose the existing dropdowns in the course catalog as "quick views" of course details. And the drawer could act as an "expanded view", showing all available details for a course.
As for what the exact differences in shown data would be between the two views, we'll figure that out when we cross that bridge. But for now, the presence of a drawer UI would be helpful in solving this pain point, even if it contains the same data as a dropdown for now.
