I tried the steps you mentioned here but it does not work. All the version is as same as the issue (Kindle version, 2.8.0 (70980), Callibre 8.10, DeDRM plugin v10.0.14). I basically get a KFX-ZIP with DRM. |

This tool has been working great for me, but it doesn't open all books (there are only around 400 lines in the keyfile when there should be 937). Is there any way I can fix this? I'll appreciate any help you're able to give. Edit: All good, I simply had to delete the keyfile and recreate it. My apologies for bothering anyone. |

This, yes. Try using previous version (that uses memory dump,KRFKeyExtractor.exe). Also, I see I forgot to replace KRFDynamic.dll with Kindle.exe. Newest version removed KRFDynamic.dll (though update might not clean it up from the folder) |

Ok, I tried again with a clean install on Kindle (v2.8.0 70980). Same results There does NOT appear to be a KRFDynamic.dll in the Kindle installation directory, so I cannot check its version :-( Running KRFExtractor.exe (from the Kindle installation directory) returns "Could not load KRFDynamic.dll" Any ideas? I'm happy to provide additional diagnostics if needed |

I get the same errors as topcat000 but when I tried running it from kindle folder, I get this log. Running initializer 1341fb0 I am also running on a windows machine as well. |

@Aba-222 , your is completely different though? It even extracts your DSN/secret, rather than crashing. What is your command line? Looks like kindle directory has a typo. |

It worked when I ran it from the kindle application directory. It extracted 1056 keys and 65 books where it output: BookOpen error 14 Missing magic bytes Then it crashed again. It generated a keyfile but not the kindle_account.k4i. I have 1261 EBOK folders. I was able to use the keyfile and some older books I tested got decrypted but not the latest one. I have not had a chance to check more books. Is there any memory constraints or number of entries the program can handle? |

BookOpen error 14 means that is not a KFX book. KF8, usually. In such a large collection, there would be some. That said, unfortunately, yes, the memory is not cleaned up well (I don't feel like manually searching for every destructor in executable assembly), so on large amount of books it may crash, sorry. The only recommendation for such cases is to separate folder into several, and then concatenate resulting keyfiles. |

The first C:\Users\Lorel> is there by default. I was able to change it so that is starts with C:> instead but I get the same results as above. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this sort of thing. So I apologize for confusion/misunderstanding. |

Maybe the proper tutorial would help? I am pretty bad at explaining the basics. Essentially, the provided command line is what you need to enter regardless of your current directory (which is what the prefix in cmd is), since it uses absolute paths. The output files would be in current directory regardless, though. |

So I got it to work finally. Now the only issue is that it is not creating the keyfile. I redacted the sensitive information but it did find what I am assuming is the information needed in the keyfile it just never creates the key file. |

The keyfile should appear in your c:\ root folder... Assuming it can write there. I think by default on windows you cannot? Maybe try running it from a folder you created? or "C:\Users\Lorel" or "C:\Users\Lorel\Dowloads", those should be writable. So "C:\Users\Lorel\Dowloads>C:\Users\Lorel\AppData\Local\Amazon\Kindle\application\KFXKeyExtractor28.exe "C:\Users\Lorel\Documents\My Kindle Content" keyfile kindle_account.k4" |

Mine is also stopping at the "Got Offset: 35de8a0" The Got Offset code changes every run. I also was unable to run the techy notes batch. It fails immediately and closes before I can see the error. My "My Kindle Content" location is correct. @Satsuoni I ran this with the verbose version you mentioned and get the below I am not seeing any actual error info, but got offset. Any ideas or anything I can do to help troubleshoot further? |

sorry missed a step only do the above after downloading the books you want. then run command . you will also need to add new dedrm to calibre. once the above command has been run open calibre (first step i gave). then preferences. search for dedrm . customize plugin . the 4th open under kinde for macs pcs is a picture of a folder. after running the command in 1st step. it saves a file called kindle_account.k4i in the same location as where your kindle icon is. while you have customize plugin still open direct to that folder ( where kindle icon is located) look for kindle_account.k4i and save info. you only need to do the customize plugin once. the next time you download books just run the above command in first step . |

Ok, so I'm in the Kindle folder via the desktop icon but I don't have a CMD option when I right click. The best it'll do is open me a Windows Powershell terminal, but it won't let me type anything in it, so I'm not sure what you mean by opening a command. I've tried directing the CMD to run the Key_finder.bat within that Kindle system folder, but then it crashes with a red error message (the CMD window closes before I can see what the error message is) so I'm still not sure what you're saying I should do. I'm sorry if this is really stupid and obvious. |

When you're in the kindle folder, type cmd in the address bar and hit enter to open a command prompt there. Then you want to run KFXKeyExtractor28.exe, not that batch file. Put in the arguments exactly how it says in what you just quoted. |

@misshelenjune Means you're not in the folder that contains KFXKeyExtractor28.exe, so you need to navigate to that folder using the cd (change directory) command, e.g. cd C:\Users[your username]\Downloads\DeDRM_tools (or whatever the folder is on your system). |

Or get a KFX book that uses secrets (pretty sure there are some samples that do), generate correct k4i, import it and try importing your KF8 books as normal, they should work. |

I was able to run the Key_finder.bat and it looked like it was successful but the kindlekey.txt file keeps coming through as blank? I've got a few of my problem Kindle books already downloaded through the appropriate version of K4PC, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Would it work if I just copy and paste my Kindle serial into the doc? Is it supposed to be blank? I don't know what I'm doing wrong 😕 |

Thank you so, so, much for all your help. At some point when trying to clear out my failed attempts I must've deleted the key extractor back out of my Kindle application folder 🤦🏻♀️ Yes, that worked just fine and I'm now able to import my books. I'm so sorry for all my dumb questions. |

Unfortunately I can't get it to work - the key extractor crashes every time. It runs and then I get the notification that KFXKeyExtractor28.exe has stopped working. No key file is generated. Edit: I created a new user account, installed everything from scratch and now it doesn't crash like before, but instead I get "Could not get account tokens from storage, aborting". What does it mean? |

Maybe it did not write secrets to storage yet the first time? No idea. Judging from error, storage was there and DSN was written, but account secret was not, maybe it need time, or just only wrote on close? Anyway, glad that it worked. |

Hmm... Yeah, no idea. Try looking in the Windows Event Viewer>windows logs>application after running it, it should have a crash data there if it crashed... I think. |

I am now using KFXArchiver283.exe and Kindle 2.8.3 but when trying to run the archiver tool, I get the below message (no error is shown however) but the deDRM'ed book does not occur in the directory.
Can you please help ? I was facing this issue a few days earlier when using Kindle 2.8.0 and the issue got resolved after I started using the latest versions of Kindle and archiver tool. But now the issue has returned again even with the latest tools. Can you please help ? Thanks in advance. EDIT- Worked fine after uninstalling and reinstalling. |

I'm running k4PC v2.8.3. Opened the book (published in 2026), and downloaded. Tried running KFXArchiver283.exe; got as far as "Got offset: nnnnnnnn", then silently crashed: Ran .\KFXArchiver290.exe; got as far as "Flipped tls", then silently crashed: In both cases, dump files were created in AppData\Local\CrashDumps – not sure if they're safe to upload. Would appreciate guidance... Thanks! |

Hmm, I thought I addressed it, though not sure if that is the same issue. Yes, crashdumps are excessive, but if you are generating those, you should generate crash events in Windows Event Logs somewhere. Those should contain address at which crash occurred. I would need that if I am to debug the issue. Or, you can try running this variant with some debug prints uncommented and provide output. |

Still no idea why :( The only idea is that your windows version (22h2?) is messing something up compared to the one it was compiled on (25h2). But that is just guesswork. As long as it works... |

But there is nothing in that initialization that should crash, unlike the one in some previous versions. So something in stdlib does not load properly. And without installing that windows version and checking through dll, I cannot really tell what. Maybe recompiling it on your machine would work? It does come with source code. And the reports above seem to indicate that reinstalling or switching K4PC version sometimes helps. Odd. |

Hi, I'm trying to extract the KF key file but I'm having no luck. I get the below message when I put in the command prompt (I've pointed it to where my books are stored as they are not on the C drive). I'm running K4PC 2.8.3 and I have deDRM 10.0.19 I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out what. Any help gratefully accepted! Extractor 28 does not support 2.8.3. Also, it is not in your User folder. Did you put the executable there? If so, why? If not, move to the folder it is in. |

to make sure you are in said directory type cd "C:\Users\User"if its in
user . cd is calling the directory where its located. then run
KFXKeyExtractor28.exe "where your kindle library is located" mine
is C:\Users\Admin\Documents\My Kindle Content"
so this would be command for me
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Amazon\Kindle
KFXKeyExtractor28.exe "C:\Users\Admin\Documents\My Kindle Content" keyfile
kindle_account.k4i
once file has run . open calibre . open preferences . advanced then
plugins. if you havent added the dedrm plugin you need to add it to
calibre. restart calibre. open preferences , advanced then plugins. search
for dedrm. use customise dedrm . when you run KFXKeyExtractor28.exe from
wherever you run it from. it will save two files keyfile and
kindle_account.k4i .click on the button kindle for pc (under
calibrepreferences) point it to where you ran KFXKeyExtractor from. open
the file named Kindle_acccount.k4i . this stores you account id. once you
finished. same area click set keyfile. it should automatically open the
same directory where kindle account.k4i is. look for a file that says
Keyfile. open it (while in calibre)
the above you only need once.
in future you run the command eg KFXKeyExtractor28.exe
"C:\Users\Admin\Documents\My Kindle Content" keyfile kindle_account.k4i

Hi, thank you for your detailed instructions. I've moved my library to C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Amazon\Kindle For PC\My Kindle Content and made sure that KFXKeyExtractor28.exe is in the same folder. I've tried again to run the utility and I get the following error message. K4PC is not located in program files for me. It's in AppData. Open windows explorer. Go to folder where you copied extractor too. In the
address bar eg c:/windows . Highlight adress and press backspace. Then type
cmd and enter. This willopen command to that directory where extractor is
. Type kfxkeyextractor28.exe " where your library is located in quotes "
keyfile kindle_account.k4i

Looks like it crashed for some reason? Try using KFXArchiver, etc. I do wonder why it crashes sometimes, but I also heard 2.8.2 may no longer be supported by Amazon, not sure if that is true for all or not. |

Do you think maybe it quietly updated to 2.9.1 ? KFXArchiver291.exe " where your library is located" "folder copies to " keyfile kindle_account.k4i . You are doing great by the way. I believe in you.you got this. And if you are using 2.8.2 it will be KFXArchiver283 not 291. Hope I have helped . All the best |

Also you run the extractor after you have downloaded books. For time
saving. Best to do more than one at a time. By that I mean if you have 5
new books. Download rather than running command one at a time.

Hi, I have 2 books which I downloaded. They imported as KFX-Zip files into the new folder. I do not have a keyfile in Calibre but I imported them into Calibre to see what would happen just in case and they came in as KFX files I could convert to EPUB. I don't know exactly how it worked but it did! I thought I had to have a keyfile in Calibre but it worked without one. I have the cmd script I need to use for any future purchases and that might enable me to purchase Amz books until 30 June anyway. We run Win 11 but I gather the K4PC app will be different after 30 June and the one I'm using now won't work so I expect I'll be out of the Zonosphere at that point. (It's silly - just want to own the books I buy and Amazon are actively sending me to another vendor. Makes no sense to me.) Anyway, thank you both so much for your help and for your patience. It was very appreciated! :) |

KFX-Zip outside of Calibre are decrypted files. No keyfile needed. KFX import plugin packs them into a single (KFX) file. KFXArchiver just decrypts them and packs files into a single ZIP. A bit confusing, but it is what it is. |

I assume you used the kfx archiver. I only started using the latest version
recently. I try hold off as long as I can to try help delay the next
release. Anyway, with kfxarchiver it will save those files as kfxzip but
will become kfx in calibre. Happy you got it to work in the end. Side note.
Some books come with drm free option. Epub or pdf . Not sure how long that
will last. It doesn't say which books are drm free. But it's good you
learnt this way. Enjoy your books. I suggest you try dedrm as many as you
can from your library.

Hi, hitting a consistent crash across every K4PC and tool version combination I've tried. Posting the most complete output in case the stack trace is useful.
Combinations tried:
Most complete output (KFXArchiver291 v10.0.20 against K4PC 2.8.3, Defender off): The crash is consistently at 0x777C2AC6 in ntdll immediately after "Flipped tls". Any idea what's happening at that point and whether there's a workaround? |

I fed your Logs to Claude just to see what ideas it had, this was it's reply: Thanks for the detailed log — I compared your setup (Logs from OP) against my own working environment (Local) to narrow this down. Environment comparison:
OS version down to the last patch digit, K4PC version, and tool version are all identical between our setups — so those are not the cause. The tools run without issue on my end. The crash ( Most likely causes in order: 1. Third-party endpoint security / EDR software Look for anything from the vendors listed above. 2. Corrupted or leftover K4PC installation
3. What CPU are you running? |

If it prints "flipped tls" it means that part is done, though... And in some cases, it fails after several Initializers did run. But yes, it is baffling to me still. Apparently, things that occasionally fixed it include: reinstalling K4PC even with the same version, changing shell to powershell, from powershell, updating powershell to v7, using a different windows installation and rebooting PC. Some of them seemed to fix it for good, but sometimes issue came back after a while. It also seems to be spreading a bit. Issue persists even if I do not hook malloc at all, and so far the only thing that comes to mind is that it somehow loads more than one ntdll and that makes it wonky, but it does not seem to. It is rather frustrating, since it appears to be random and not reproducible on my side at all. |

I am not very good at explaining, but I will try... once, for this new version.
For the newer K4PC, you need to extract key file corresponding to the books you have. For that (ver. 2.8.0 (70980)), you need to:
c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Amazon\Kindle\applicationKFXKeyExtractor28.exe "C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\My Kindle Content" keyfile kindle_account.k4i, assuming that (My Kindle Content) is where your books are stored. The utility can be run from anywhere, in theory.If there are still errors, try asking here.
