ISO missing in release page

The Action seems to have stopped including the ISO in the releases page. Only the source code (tar.gz and zip) are available as downloads.

Seems like all thats needed is a host for the file. Someone either needs to provide that, or we need to find a free service that would host the file for the week (mediafire, megaNZ etc something that is acceptable by community standards). I dont have much hope for a p2p solution but that could be a possibility?

Actually, the ISO could be split into mutltiple files, perhaps zip files, that the end user would have to merge. I'll look into it.

You can easily build the iso yourself executing build-iso.sh from the repo's root. It's a little long but at the end, you'll get the iso. Ofc you need Guix to build the iso...

In the end I slinked back to my familiar Arch system, didn't have time to figure out all the weirdness of the guix setup and usage, but I suspect I will still want to try it out when I have a calm, undisturbed period to learn how the system works.

Ooooooh, ok. I'm not crazy. I was trying to follow the instructions to download the ISO and was not seeing it in the releases page.

I tried running build-iso.sh, but that failed, so now I gotta go debug that.

It would be nice to update the readme with full, up-to-date instructions.

If you can't build the image manually, a workaround I found was to download an older release: https://github.com/SystemCrafters/guix-installer/releases/tag/v202412150202 then update the system after completing the installation.

Just wanted to clarify, in order to generate the ISO file from the data in this repository, I would need guix to be able to generate the ISO file?

But keep in mind that I have removed much of the firmware to keep the ISO below the 2GB limit. So, it will depend on your hardware, whether you can get through the installation process. After that you can install whatever firmware/drivers you need.

I tried but wasn't able to get the build running locally on my system like it is running in CI. You don't need to be running Guix OS but the guix command is required to build.

perhaps this could be moved to codeberg as well, if you request larger release files: check relevant doc as this seems like a legit use case of larger files to me.
