How about writing a script to make selected objects fit into a specific layout? 

Hi , a very useful script you might be able to help with.
The object is a text box, or an image, or a regular frame.
The function of the script is to make the selected object fit the column width, or the type area width.
Of these, images and normal frames need to be scaled to fit (by width) equally.
