There's an app currently being shopped around to governments and security services that is aimed at collecting footage from citizens and storing it with the police. As we've seen through experiments with body cameras, that's not always a good idea. When the state controls the footage, they literally get to have the first edit of history.
In light of this, it is critical that we develop a service that allows for an alternative source of truth that can't be altered. This could be an app similar to Reporty or based on the existing ACLU app that captures user footage, but that also stores an (or many) immutable hash(es) of the original. This will make forgeries of the data more or less impossible.
