Basically we would like to customize the text that appears when a weblate page is linked in for example Discord. I guess that I could override the base.html template file and replace {{ DESCRIPTION }} with my text, but for that it seems I need to override the whole file, which is probably going to cause issues on updates. |

Not right now, but it could definitely be exposed via settings. Is this the site-wide description you want to change or the project-scoped one? |

Preferably we'd like to be able to change both. We are using Weblate as a self-hosted solution to translate exactly one project (with a number of components) for one software, but the description refers to multiple softwares and the ability to create one's own project - which is misleading for potential users, as they can't actually do that nor is that the purpose of this specific Weblate installation. The main description for example says: "This site runs Weblate for localizing various software projects." The project description says: Basically remove the hints towards multi-project usage. A simple switch that removes such references for a "Single Project Instance" would be sufficient, we have no interest in changing anything else. Probably this is something Weblate gets used for not rarely - we originally used Crowdin for the translations, but after multiple changes in what they base the monthly fee on, it became completely unaffordable for our project. Weblate has already shown in just a month to be superior for both translators and the deployment automation (we even took the switch as an opportunity to update our localization system to be standardized with XLIFF 1.2, so Weblate could deal with it well) - so, at this point, also thank you very much for providing this masterpiece of software, without it we would not have been able to offer community translations anymore. The ability to just host it on a docker instance makes setup easy and very cost efficient, the increased setup "difficulty" was pretty much negligible - especially as it was always hell to get translations back into the software with Crowdin. |
#19994 should cover most of your needs. I'm still not convinced we want to make this configurable because of the per-project descriptions.
