Trying to ask for support for the softmod installer here, since no idea where else... #7

Hello,

I'm trying to softmod my Xbox by using the Xbox Softmodding Tool (https://github.com/Rocky5/Xbox-Softmodding-Tool)
This uses the endgame exploit.

As I already tried asking on reddit, this doesn't work for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/comments/1iwoi1o/softmod_installer_via_endgame_not_working/

But the strange thing is, the Insignia Setup Assistant (https://github.com/insignia-live/setup-assistant-release), which is also using endgame does work perfectly.

As I said in the reddit post, the endgame exploit seems to trigger, but instead of loading the Softmod installer, it just restarts to the dashboard (without playing the boot animation like on coldboot)

My Xbox model is a EU Crystal Xbox, I'm using a 2GB USB stick with the controller port to USB cable adapter.
Maybe another detail that might have influence to this issue but not sure, I'm using the ElectronXout adapter to give HDMI out (From Electron Shepherd)

If anyone has any idea, or a better place to ask this question please feel free to let me know (the softmod installer sadly doesn't have an issue tracker on github)

Thanks in advance!

I'd try using different USB hardware if possible. If Rocky's tool writes to the USB drive at all, it's possible the hardware is slightly incompatible.

Yeah, hard to advise. It sounds like the softmod tool is crashing pretty early, maybe when unpacking its assets. I'm not all that familiar with the softmod tool, or how it was modified to launch via ENDGAME.

This doesn't sound like an ENDGAME issue, so I'm tagging @Rocky5 for visibility. I also haven't touched Xbox in almost a year so I'm not sure how much I can help.

Besides fully reformatting the USB on windows (before formatting on xbox) and trying a different USB, the only advice I could give from the ENDGAME side is to try "browsing" around the dash a bit more before navigating to the memory card. Also make sure any other devices or peripherals are unplugged from the controller ports.

Also can maybe try using lithiumx as a payload to delete any softmod-specific files / directories on the console that could somehow have gotten the filesystem stuck in a weird state.

The LEDS should flash green then go solid if everything was written to disk and run before going red. (This is the BFM bios taking over)

But I suspect you’re not even getting that far, as normally issues arise from unleashx not loading properly (reboot normally fixes it and rerunning the exploit)

Anyways, I used CrunchBite packed-xbe-launcher to reduce the size of the payload to 4MB that might be not working correctly as it should extract and launch the proper payload xbe in the E:\CACHE folder (it’s created if it doesn’t exist)

I have only seen 1 other person where no matter what they done (I tried helping, even making custom payloads) on 1 Xbox the payload would never run (this was before I compressed it using above) put the same usb in another Xbox and loads first time. Think they gave up or modded it some other way as never heard from them again.

Edit:
Just reread what you put, it reload the dashboard so something not being written correctly, corrupted xbe (empty) and it’s falling back. What dose the LED do when the exploit is run?
