Unable to access sources observed in Sector 61 and 64

Hi,

I’m running into the same issue #249 and #236.

I tried updating my eleanor package and also installed it via git clone, so the maxsector.py was set to 97. However, it still didn’t work for sectors 61 and 64. I also checked tess-point to make sure it was up-to-date, and it was.

Running eleanor.Update(sector=61) does work, but it takes a long time, and it’s difficult to run for all the sectors I need. My targets have no postcards (as indicated when running star = eleanor.Source(coords=coords, sector=61)), so the code defaults to using TESSCut instead. Could the lack of postcards be causing this issue?

Do you know if there is a faster way to handle this that you would recommend?

You may be having an error from tess-point not recognizing your target as having been observed in those sectors as they fall near the edge of sector.

You could try the webpage version of tess-point for a quick sanity check. My running theory is that if the target has fallen near the edge of a sector, TESScut (and by extension astroquery) will have that sector listed as containing that target, but tess-point will not as it uses geometry to check for what sectors a target is in while the others check MAST. Then Eleanor will throw this index 0 error when you try using it for these dubious sectors.

Can you give the TIC ID of an example star where you're running into this issue?

Ryan's running theory is largely correct - there are 88 columns and 30 rows of each TESS detector that never see the sky (https://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/tess/images/pages/tess_collateralPix.png). If a star would have landed on those, TESSCut lists it has a part of that sector even though there is no data, and that gets propogated into astroquery. tess-point (correctly, imo) does not include those as being a part of the field and so eleanor will tell you there is no data for those stars in those sectors.

That's a relatively small fraction of the detector so if you're seeing this for every star that isn't your problem, but if it is occurring for a few stars here and there then plausibly so. But it's impossible to say without a working example that reproduces your problem!
