VM id

Hello Moshe and developers,

I contacted you previously by e-mail with some feedback and you awarded me a $100 test credit. Much appreciated and testing continues.

Now I wanted to delete one of my first test instances and I'm asked for the VM_id.

I checked if possibly aleph instance list would reveal this data but it didn't. Googling or rather duckducking aleph vm_id didn't reveal much either.

Where can I find it (the list of vm_ids)? It is not immediately obvious unless I missed something. Using the CLI only, not the web version.

Feature request (not high priority):

-Add VM id's to the output of aleph instance list
-Also maybe list them automatically when user types aleph instance stop or aleph delete for convenience.

Update:

Ok, so I assume the vm_id is the "item hash" listed in turquoise colors, vertically, under the green RUNNING label. However when I try to run aleph instance stop [itemhash] I just get the output status 400. And it's still listed as running under aleph instance list. I have still not managed the stop the instance : D

This should be a separate issue but the CLI is a bit slow. I think I mentioned this previously. Many of the commands take between 10-30 seconds to run. And they occasionally work and occasionally not. When they don't work they output several pages full of error messages. I understand it has to poll servers or something but still.

Update:

As the credits were ticking I had to delete the instance instead of stopping it. But I would be interested in knowing how to stop it for the next time.

I also wanted to say I'm getting used to this and I am intrigued by Aleph. So I will continue testing it, using it and possibly recommend it later on.

I like the design of the Choose a Compute Resource Node screen. It's efficient.

So far I prefer Aleph over Google Cloud and also over Akash.

A --no-formating flag for the cli would be useful. It always outputs stuff in stylish tables but the problem is on this screen the colors don't render well and in general sometimes the tables are messed up so all the text becomes vertical in just two columns. Like so:

I would default to no formatting in fact for the cli and no tables. It's more efficient. If you ask me function always comes before style.

Do you know which flag that is? Or does it have to be parsed from --json?
