Canon imageRUNNER 1133a succesfullly tested (Linux Mint)

Hi,

I have performed some test with the multifunction printer imageRUNNER 1133a in order to scan documents over my local network with a laptop running Linux Mint 21.3 and another one running Linux Mint 22 (fresh install)
The test was conclusive, and I think it should work with all 1133 series.
It works in WSD mode, but I couldn't find anything about eSCL mode in documentation.

FYI, Canon printer driver is not required to operate the scanner with sane-airscan but I would recommend installing it in order to get a fully operational device.
Unlike the sane-pixma package method, you don't need to open any port in your firewall.

Before you start, make sure that the following packages are installed on your computer : libsane libsane-common sane-utils sane-airscan and that your computer and your printer are connected to the same local network.

1. Get you printer's t IP address, the quickest way is to press the eye button on your printer (below the USB print button) and choose : Network information, IPv4 then IP Address
2. Switch on your printer and enter http://IP_ADDRESS_OF_YOUR_PRINTER in your web browser to access the web management portal.
3. Choose management mode, if you haven't configured any admin credentials, leave blank.
4. Go to Settings/Registration, Network Settings, TCP/IP Settings, go down to WSD settings and click edit
5. In this panel you have to tick at least : Use WSD Printing, Use WSD Browsing, Use WSD Scanning, although I think it would cause no harm to tick everything. Don't forget to click OK to confirm the choices.
6. Restart your printer
7. Now open a terminal on your computer and type scanimage -L. With a correct configuration, you should get this message : device airscan:w1:Canon imageRUNNER1133 series' is a WSD Canon imageRUNNER1133 series ip=IP_OF_YOUR_PRINTER
8. Final step : run a test with your scanning software, mine is GNOME simple-scan. Don't forget to put your printer in scan mode, to do that press scan button on your printer then choose Remote Scanner, this is the only way to start a scan job from any scanning software on your computer.

Side note : I haven't found a way to start a scan directly from the printer, I think it requires CANON proprietary software (MF drivers) but there's no linux version. If anyone knows something about that, feel free to reply here.
