AVERAGE function doesn't ignore empty cells

if my AVERAGE formula range in excel includes several blank rows, excel ignores these functions. xlcalculator, however, includes them.

e.g. given these cells:

1
2
3

AVERAGE(1:4)

Excel will return 2 (ignoring the last empty cell) but xlcalculator will return 1.5
