using SDPB with Docker for PyCFTBoot

I want to use PyCFTBoot.

When I tried to build SDPB from scratch in MacOS I faced some issues.

David Simmons-Duffin has suggested to use Docker to run SDPB.

Is it possible to run SDPB with Docker for using PyCFTBoot or for PyCFTBoot it is necessary to build SDPB from scratch ?

I've never used Docker but here's my guess for what you should do.

1. Changes lines 16 and 17 of common.py to read:
   sdpb_path = "sdpb"
mpirun_path = "docker run -v /my/project/:/usr/local/share/sdpb wlandry/sdpb:2.5.1 mpirun --allow-run-as-root"
2. Directly underneath add:
   sdpb_version = 2
3. Delete lines 19-45.
4. Change line 1229 of bootstrap.py to read
   pvm2sdp_path = "pvm2sdp"

Note that /my/project should be the path to the directory where you have extracted pycftboot. If this doesn't work, please post the error and be as specific as possible.

I successfully got this working by using Docker for SDPB while keeping PyCFTBoot running locally. Here is the workflow:

1. Preparation First, pull the Docker image (e.g., bootstrapcollaboration/sdpb:master) and follow the install.md of PyCFTBoot to install the local Python dependencies (like SymEngine).

2. Modifying common.py You need to bypass the local path detection by hard-coding the paths and versions.

Delete or comment out the find_executable function and the auto-detection logic (lines 19-47).

Add the following configuration at the beginning of the file common.py:

# {os.getcwd()} mounts the current directory so the container can see your XML files.
# Replace 'YOUR_IMAGE_NAME' with the actual image you pulled (e.g., wlandry/sdpb:2.5.1)
mpirun_path = f"docker run --rm -v {os.getcwd()}:/work -w /work YOUR_IMAGE_NAME mpirun -n {your threads} --allow-run-as-root"

# Manually specify the version (adjust based on your Docker image version)
sdpb_version_major = 2 
sdpb_version_minor = 6

3. Modifying bootstrap.py If necessary, specify the path for pvm2sdp as well:

pvm2sdp_path = "pvm2sdp"

After these changes, import bootstrap should work correctly without needing to compile SDPB from scratch on the host machine.
