[feature] Conan Support for Windows arm64

What is your suggestion?

I am looking for windows arm64 support and I did not find windows arm64 binaries here in the release

Is there any plan to add it?

Thanks for your feedback.

In general Conan should work in Windows arm64, it is a supported platform (the packages in ConanCenter might have different support for it, depending on the underlying libraries build-systems, etc, but Conan the client itself does support Windows-arm64).

So it is just the self-contained bundled Conan that is not being released yet. But using the pip install conan installation it should work. Is there any special reasons you might not be able to use the pip install one?

We haven't considered yet to release the self-contained bundled, but it might be considered, specially now that Windows arm64 is getting more popular.

Thank you very much for your response. I am happy to know that, you may be considering self-contained bundled for Windows arm64.

I understand that pip install conan may work, however It may not be the ideal way to support Conan for Windows arm64 in my opinion.

Since Conan has a major role to play in the Open Source Software(OSS) echo system, It is good to have formally released Windows arm64 Conan installers/libraries. It will be greatly appreciated.

As you recognise growing popularity for Windows arm64, can you please consider releasing windows arm64 binaries as part of your near future/next releases? Do you see this as possibility ?

We are having a look at it. The problem is that we don't have any Win ARM hardware to create that executable right now, but we are checking different options.

Did you check the docs about creating your own standalone executable? Maybe that's an option for you in the meantime?

Thank you for the response. I understand. But now ( from April 2025) Git Hub has made Windows on ARM (WoA) runners available. We can use GHA runners to create executables. You don't need the hardware.

I am happy to contribute and implement a GHA workflow script for WoA and then send it you for review.
We can build WoA executables as part GHA work flow script.

Will that be OK to you?

Hi @vask2108,

Thank you very much for the offer. We are currently using Jenkins with machines provisioned in Google Cloud, which unfortunately does not provide Windows ARM instances. In fact, migrating to GitHub Actions is exactly what we were considering, this is something we already had in mind for some time since we also migrated all our tests to GA.

The challenge is that it goes a bit beyond just generating Conan standalone binaries. We would also need to migrate the creation of Debian packages, Windows installers, executables for other platforms (macOS x86_64/ARM, Linux x86_64/ARM...), as well as all the operations involved in releasing Conan.

Our plan is to run some tests to migrate all of this in the coming weeks, so we’ll keep you updated on the progress.

I created a draft PR, which building Windows ARM64 installer in the GHA runner . Can you please have a look and let me know, If I can do anything more for the official support of Conan for the Window ARM64 platform.

Sorry for the delay. In the meantime, we made a couple of attempts to migrate our release flow to GitHub Actions, but for different reasons we ended up discarding them. We still have some ideas about how to approach it for the next release, and we’ll try to dedicate some time next week to review and move this forward.
