Can I reuse chrome extension tutorial code? How do I reference it??

You can definitely reuse it. For the moment just include a comment that says that bit of code is from [URL] and link to it.

Not sure if I need to do this, mainly because I don't know where to put this comment since most of the code I used, I have altered beyond recognition. I started by copying all their code (manifest, html, and javascript), then edited all of it to put in my own. So things that are still the same are: structure (within functions), comments that use special formatting for auto-documentation, error handling, and the function getCurrentTabUrl is the same.

If it is altered beyond recognition you don't need to cite it.
