Description

When I attempt to do a region screenshot, adds a new frame of part of the screen for me to select within and take screenshot. Quite wierd...
Not sure what version I have installed, as both the package manager, and discovery, clain I have not installed?? ("think" it was installed from the package manager - yast - initially, but not sure.)
Is a fairly new OS install (4 months?), and remember did have a few issues with Flameshot initially (but don't really remember why..)
How can I completely uninstall a version, that I don't know how it was installed??

Steps to reproduce

App opens with icon in status bar automatically when logged on - in Autostart.
press 'print screen' and small windows with part of the screen appears on desktop, as per attached pic.

Even the OS doesn't think it's installed:

john@boss:~> flameshot --version

The program 'flameshot' can be found in following packages:
  * flameshot [ path: /usr/bin/flameshot, repository: https-download.opensuse.org-416e7b04 ]
  * flameshot [ path: /usr/bin/flameshot, repository: https-download.opensuse.org-da5502ec ]
  * flameshot [ path: /usr/bin/flameshot, repository: repo-oss ]

Try installing with:
    sudo zypper install <selected_package>

I did install as well, through Yast, still ran exactly the same, then uninstalled, and still the same.

All these have been fixed in v14. Please consider updating.

I'm also curious why Tumbleweed which is a rolli release haven't updated after all these time.

OK, latest update...
Did some trawling and found a Flatpak install (13.9....), so removed that (Shouldn't discover have found that?)
Then installed from yast (14.0.0-1.2), but still have the same issue?

(Yeah, OK, am cheating and using AI...)

There is no shame in using a tool correctly when needed.

As for config, you can find almost all the application config files in ~/.config. just open the terminal and type:

# change directory (i.e., navigate) to the config folder
cd ~/.config

# list files and folders
ls

# change directory to Flameshot
cd flameshot

# list files and folders
ls

# view the content of the file
less flameshot.ini

# to edit the file
kate flameshot.ini

To get out of less, press Ctrl and c together.

As for which Flameshot you are running, you can always do this in terminal

which flameshot

This would tell you the path to the Flameshot application that will be executed when you run flameshot or flameshot gui or flameshot --version in your terminal

To lost installed Flatpaks:

flatpak list

For finding why this happens, I advise to exclusively use terminal to know what's happening:

1. Open a terminal
2. Run flameshot --version and make sure it is v14 or later
3. Run flameshot gui

Yep, now running, which was installed from Yast:

So run flameshot gui, and the result is still a small dark window of part of the screen, that I can select in, and the resulting info in the terminal:

Did another full uninstall (and also did a "sudo find -name flameshot", and deleted anything that looked remotely like a config, etc), and a reinstall, with the same result....
ie dark popup showing part of the screen, waiting for me to select something, with a not at the bottom "Flameshot has lost focus. Keyboard shortcuts won't work until you click somewhere."
If I click outside the square, nothing happens, but can click inside the square (which shows about 20% of the screen), and actually take a screenshot, save it, etc.

This is definitely not a config issue.

Can you confirm if you are on Wayland or X11? You can read about how to do that here:

No. Only thing I can think is it's a wide screen, not sure of dimensions exactly, not there... 34" monitor.
