App rebranding

There are trademark issues with the current branding:

• "gnome" in website domain name is prohibited
• a name starting with "gnome-" is also prohibited / needs approval
• "pomodoro" is a registered trademark, including the software category

I'd like to publish the app through FlatHub, but I fear it may not pass the approval process. Violation of trademarks could have consequences including removal from repos... It's better to do it now, rather than later.

Any suggestions for the new organisation name on GitHub, the app and the binary name?

I like the "Focus Timer" for the app name, but no clue with the org.

@kamilprusko it is a good idea to change this now. "Focus Timer" also sounds good to me. We could use focustimerhq, timerhq or any variation as the org name.

I agree with @codito and think the new name has to include the word "Focus" in it.
Another idea (which is less good in my opinion) is "Gnomodoro"

I like "focus time", totally fine. Just some more ideas:

• "pomognomo" / "pomognomy"
• "focus clock" / "focus ticker" / "focus guide"
• "pomconcent" (from concentration)

Focus Timer is also fine, but sounds generic and could lead to issues when searching for it.

• Deeply – Inspired by "Deep Work" philosophy.

@omeritzics I like "Gnomodoro" - it's playful and it sounds like the existing name. "Focus Timer" to me still feels more suiting for the project: it doesn't imply strictly following the Pomodoro Technique and it doesn't come with expectations of reproducing the functionality of a kitchen timer...

Looking at other projects, the generic names are often localised:

• Break Timer

  • de: Pausenerinnerung (~Break reminder)
  • fr: Minuteur de pauses
  • es: Descansos (~Breaks)
  • pl: Menedżer przerw (~Break Manager)
  • sv: Break Timer (not localised?)

• Sessions

  • de: Sitzungen (~Meetings?)
  • es: Sesiones
  • hr: Sesije
  • vi: Sessions (not localised)

• Flowtime:

  • not localized

could lead to issues when searching for it.
