HVAC mode switching

It's unclear to me what the different HVAC modes do, and how to control them correctly?

From the docs:

At the moment the library supports reading current temperature, target temperature plus other values from the thermostat and setting the target temperature, switching between manual, automatic and frost protection mode,

However, in HA i can choose between 'heating', 'automatic' and 'off'. Which is which, and what does 'automatic' even mean?

Also; when i set an HVAC mode in HA, i get a big UI element in Home Assistant telling me the HVAC mode, but it does not switch back to the temperature controls after X seconds. This feels weird, especially when switching to the mode 'heating' and not being able to set the temperature. When i switch to 'off' i do get the temperature controls immediately. What i find strange there, is that the temperature goes to 'zero' (why not keep the temp setting and just switch off?).

Well, if I have understood it correctly, I have only used the heating mode since I got it, so been a while since I dived into this...

auto is when you select the programming mode in the app. There you can set a schedule and also choose to activate "smartGeo" where they adapt after your presence.

But dropped that rader quickly and went for "fixed temperature" which is the same as heating.

As to the strange behaviour, I can only agree :)
