Crashed device -> double Unique-HWID, what can I do ?

Hello,

I use python-can to control 2 IXXAT Adapters which each have a unique hardware ID (UHD) A & B.
It sometimes happens that one crashes and a third device with the same UHD appears.
I e.g. then have 3 UHD where the first and last are the same. The first cannot be opened (the crashed one), but the last can.
The only thing that helps is to reboot my PC.
Is there a way to open the second Device even if there is no differen UHD ?
If I skip the first device by changing the source of python-can, it seems to work fine, but i do not want to alter the sourcecode everytime.

Just to add some information, here are the changes to the sourceode i used.
