I happen to be a couch player, so playing games with a joystick is a huge plus when I'm using ports.
At the moment, ioQuake3 has a very hacky support of joysticks, which makes it really tedious to use. Every axis is currently translated to a bind, removing every precision a joystick has to offer.
Plus, it doesn't support at all the UI, forcing the use of an external mouse and/or a keyboard to properly navigate through it.
Is there a joystick rewrite planned at some point ?

There won't be able to make it work in the UI in an agnostic mod way. It can be made to mimick mouse movement but the button support and menus will not translate without a custom mod and API changes.
