Remove dependency of react-native-reanimated

react-native-reanimated literally adds 30 minute more compile time to my app, having this as a dependency to just get a working keyboard seems like too much, I guess I should fork, why is this library needed?

This is the issue I am referring to with react-native-reanimated of slow compile times

Thank you for raising this issue.

In short - react-native-reanimated is a dependency that helps to build such components, such as KeyboardAvoidingView and KeyboardAwareScrollView. This library allows you to animate UI properties, such as width/height/padding etc., which is not possible if you use Animated.Value with useNativeDriver: true.

So theoretically, I can try to ship a library that will provide basic keyboard avoiding functionality and provide components such as KeyboardStickyView/KeyboardToolbar etc. But I know that most developers are using KeyboardAwareScrollView/KeyboardAvoidingView components.

Would it make sense for you to use this library without reanimated and be able to use only a strict subset of features from this library? I.e. would it be possible for your app to avoid usage of KeyboardAwareScrollView/KeybiardAvoidingView?

Thanks for your quick response, I am going to find out this weekend and possibly make a new library, react-native-reanimated is just too heavy of a dependency to use in Android at the moment, I'll give up the snappy animations so I can have 10 minute build times instead of 1 hour

Oh no, 1 hour builds is not acceptable for sure. You can check CI files of this project and check stats. My android build has an average of 6-8 minutes.

But I use caching in order not to re-compile files again and again without a need. And locally my builds take 5-30s to complete 🤷‍♂️

Maybe check your setup, maybe you re-assemble the whole project each time?..
