Hi. I discovered Panini today. It is really great. I love it. I have come across multiple times the following feature. I've loaded a equirect picture. I use the menu to select panini/linear/orhto projection. The image freezes for mouse movements. However, within a small rectangular (or square) frame in the upperleft side of the window a part of the image does react to mouse movements. This feature disappears after ordering some other menu item (not all of them), but will reappear after reselecting mentioned preset projections. (However, panini works better than the OpenGL preview in Hugin 0.8 alpha which after readjusting parameters might become totally irresponsive).
