lncli restorechanbackup ends in error : unable to unpack chan backup: unable to de-serialize w/ unknown version: 131

Hi,

My node crashed, and I was able to recover some funds using the Disaster Recovery Guide for LND.

However :

• Impossible to restore latest channel.backup : [lncli] unable to restore chan backups: rpc error: code = Unknown desc = unable to unpack chan backup: unable to de-serialize w/ unknown version: 131
• I was only able to restore an old channel.backup from 2 months --> around 10 channels were not able to be force closed
• I tried to use chantools on channel.db, but it ended nowhere since it considers I have no channel left (due to old chan.backup?)
• I then tried to restore single channels, trying to construct a channel.backup containing 1 channel --> fails, whenever I try option multi_file or single_channel

1. Do you know how to deal with the initial error?
2. Am I using lncli restorechanbackup single_channel wrongly?

so you recovered all the channels which were in the old backup file and now you still have single backup files for the channels LND did not find ?

Yes, I have approx 6 channels which did not force close (including 2 testing chan from me). Therefore 4 chans with funds in. I contacted the peers, without answer yet. Let's assume that a correct channel.back was 2 months ago, and after the backups are corrupted. Those 4 chans were open between 2 months and now, and therefore are not included in channel.backup.

Yes, but seems corrupted, according to the error message

can you try this channel backup with LND 19, or the latest chantool release ?

I tried the latest chantool release.

I'm going to try to upgrade to LND 19.

chantools + your latest channel backup should work however can you verify you are using this version: https://github.com/lightninglabs/chantools/releases/tag/v0.14.1

What is the output when reading in your newest chan.backup file with the newest chantool version ?

Otherwise use this command, which does not require the chan.backup but queries all possible channels: https://github.com/lightninglabs/chantools/blob/master/doc/chantools_triggerforceclose.md

Hi !

I was not confident, but : It worked ! latest version of LND (19.3) successfully restored the corrupted channel.backup.

I'm now seeing remaining funds being present in Limbo, should be able to get them soon in wallet.
