Audio sample rate auto change ?

Hello,

I’m thinking of replacing MPD player by the combination of Navidrome and MPV.

But MPD has a great feature : It switches automaticaly the sample rate of the soundcard depending of the sample rate of the audio source, to ensure the best audio quality. Is MPV doing that too ?

Hey @Badsheep, mpv usually tries to match the hardware's capabilities or follows your configuration for the audio output. If you want to force or prevent sample rate changes, you might want to look into the or options in your mpv.conf. Also, check if your audio driver (like ALSA, PulseAudio, or CoreAudio) isn't the one doing the automatic switching. Hope that helps!

Hello !

I want to use MPV in Mac OS.
And I DO want mpd to change the sample rate of my soundcard ! For example : I want to read a 44100Hz file, mpv detects the sample rate of the file and set my soundcard to 44100Hz. Can it work like that ?

OK I understand, it's a link to the manual. But I allready looked into that, it doesn't bring any answer... but I'll test that back at home, the exclusive mode perhaps ?

I saw this option in the manual :

--coreaudio-change-physical-format=<yes|no>
Change the physical format to one similar to the requested audio format (default: no). This has the advantage that multichannel audio output will actually work. The disadvantage is that it will change the system-wide audio settings. This is equivalent to changing the Format setting in the Audio Devices dialog in the Audio MIDI Setup utility. Note that this does not affect the selected speaker setup.

Hello ! I confirm that it works with the « coreaudio-change-physical-format=<yes|no>«  option ! Now it doesn’t work inside Navidrome, which is my final goal, but it must be related to the configuration in Navidrome.
