For EVCC , the basic idea has been written on the page in the docs. However, I would like to use this discussion thread to figure out best ways to integrate the Smappee charger with EVCC. I am puzzled especially on the 1-phase / 3 phases query.

🔧 Settings

1. Smappee max power: 5000W
   → Set on the Smappee device to test the effectiveness of the EVCC integration.

2. Loadpoints:

4. Chargers:

   • sensor.charging_point_XXXX_evcc_state was initially used to monitor status.
     → Challenge: this sensor remained in STOPPED (state A), which did not activate EVCC control.
     → Workaround: temporarily switched to the car-specific EVCC state sensor.
   • Power feedback: provided via 3-phase current sensors (L1, L2, L3) from my custom Modbus implementation.
     → This enables EVCC to detect whether charging is done using 1 phase or 3 phases.
   • Phase switching (1p3p) was disabled, since Smappee switches internally and offers no external toggle:

⚡ Results

• The car successfully charged overnight.
• Maximum observed charging power: ~4000W
  • In line with the maxPower: 4500W circuit setting.
  • Total load (charging + background consumption of the house during the night) remained below 4500W.
• Phase switching did not occur, that's a working point
• Charging current was a constant 6 A per phase throughout the session.
• EVCC mode used: min+PV

✅ Conclusion:
The first test confirms that the integration works well under the defined power limits. EVCC correctly limits charging power in line with circuit constraints. Switching support is not yet active but does not hinder basic functionality.

There was a major update on the EVCC integration since 2025.8.4. It now has a switch-entity and runs more stable! The docs are updated.

Hey @myny-git , I see you use the modbus connection from your Smappee Infinity for the evcc sensors. Where did you get the modbus register docs? I see you also mention local(?) mqtt from the Smappee genius, have you tried using that?
We have done quite some work on emhass/ha and evcc integration (with all other controllable chargers, except Smappee ;-))
Might be interesting to chat, is there a way to dm you?

Hi, I have received the modbus register docs, not sure if I am allowed to put them online, but I can share them. I am putting the registers already on my repo. I would like to gather as much as information and have as much as control as the api allows ;-)

To make it clear:

• Smappee Infinity based on Connect --> no mqtt, but we have modbus now. Modbus is not included in the official HA Smappee integration. That's why I shared here how to do it.
• Smappee Infinity based on Genius --> mqtt, so no modbus. And this local mqtt interface is, I believe integrated in the official HA.

Indeed, it was my ambition to have as much control as possible, especially in future, when Smappee is going to ask for monthly fees for smart services. Therefore, I was hoping to link Smappee with EVCC (which now works for the first time nicely) and with emhass/ha. For the latter, I have no experience yet, but as you can see in the docs, I had the intention to start figuring this out - after the integration is proved to be stable.
Anyway, all help welcome ;-)

A chat would be nice indeed, any option you propose?

Might sound a stupid question but do you need to have the Smappee Connect connected via ethernet to work? I had Smappee unlock modbus access for me but I haven't been able to connect via my current wireless connection.

Look at the modbus discussion thread. You probably have to completely restart your smappee devices in order to get it started.

in fact, it does not matter to have single phase versus three phases. You will only measure L1, instead of all three phases.

I'll see what I can do to share the modbus register.

Please disregard the "I can't connect", it must have taken 24hr for Smappee to unlock for me. It connects now.

second trial, later today --> success!!
At first, I again disabled EVCC, started Smappee in SOLAR mode, then single phase charging started (after 'start_charging'). Then, I switched on EVCC again and put Smappee in NORMAL mode. It charged nicely my car, fully within the PV-budget!

Let's hope other users find a similar algorithm, maybe then we can consider a nice algorithm.

All evcc does is set charging current and flip a switch, charging current below minimal = stop charging. Would be nice nice to have an automation that enables evcc to control the charging session completely trough the HA integration. So stopping, starting and setting charging current, that would eliminate the need to play around with charging modes in the integration yourself

what I would like is a way to stop the 1p3p switching on a day like this, with clouds covering the sun every 5 minutes or so. That switching combined with the 15min cooldownperiod between each switch, is counter-productive:

• 14:00h: switch to 3 phase charging because the sky is clear, with solar production of 8000W
• 14:01h: cloud comes in, solar production drops below 4140W (minimum for 3 phase charging): charging is stopped until the sun comes back (even if there was still enough power to charge with 1 phase)
• 14:15h: sun is again covered by a cloud, so now he switches to 1 phase for the next 15 minutes, now limiting the max charging to the max of 1 phase charging even if at 14:16h the sky is clear again so it could charge more if it was 3 phase charging
• etc etc

Plus it's driving me (and my wife :-) crazy to get constant notifications on the phone/smartwatch from the cars that charging has stopped/started again etc.

So the use case would be: in SOLAR mode, wait for charging to be set at 1 phase, then stop the ability to switch, keeping it at 1 phase.
OK I would miss the peaks from 3-phases, but I would regain the periods he would stop charging because he's stuck at 3 phase charging for 15 minutes while clouds come in. In the end it would probably not change much but I'm sure this constant switching can't be good for the car's hardware. And my sanity :-)

the way evcc handles this with proper, open and controllable (=non smappee ;-) ) charging stations that can switch between 1 en 3p is that solar mode does the switching between 1 en 3 p charging itself, so transparently can alter charging power from 1.38kw (6A 1p) all the way tot 22kw (32A 3p ). I know, so that's still my main hope/ambition - Hopefully Smappee will enable this switch - even with 15' delays if necessary.

With your implementation, is the Smappee Smart subscription still required?
I’d rather not pay €3/month for something that can be done locally (and even better).

If I understand correctly, the solar charging mode is normally only available with the Smart subscription, does your solution bypass that limitation?

I am not sure this would work. But, I believe the solution is on the way. They are developing a new Genius device, Genius 2. I saw it announced somewhere on the Facebook group, and it may be named Genius Flex. Hopefully, with that device, we have local control.

I've recently had a customer request API credentials from smappee support and he is greeted with silence. Probably as a prelude to the paid services/Genius relaese?
