How to avoid pop-up being blocked from inside async?

Hello - I am using "Linking.openURL" inside of a button press event. It works if I call it directly from that event, but if I nest it inside an async call (I need to retrieve data from the API), then the browser blocks the popup.

Is there a way to "rerun" the event? Or pass along the event to Linking.openURL so the browser knows it is a legit user action?

Browsers block window.open when it does not run directly in a user event. One option is to open the window in the press handler and set its location after the request completes. This is browser behavior, not React Native for Web. Closing.
