You're supposed to fill in the _ _ _ with your own code, based on the nearby comments.

Here, you are asked to examine the mcycle dataframe with the head function. See the R docs here for how to use it. In the next line, you should replace _ _ _ with something that plots acceleration as a function of time. These are both meant to help you get a sense for the data before you dive into the actual lessons on GAMs.
