Subscripts need kerning #99
Comments
I tried using cut-in (AKA math kerning) when I worked on the font last time, but I found it impossible to get it to behave the same everywhere. The spec has an incorrect description of the algorithm of applying MathKernInfo, and LuaTeX follows the (incorrect) letter of the spec, while XeTeX and Microsoft implementation follow the (correct) intent, so we get widely inconsistent results. |
So is it possible to cater the font for only one engine? LuaLaTeX is in development, while XeTeX is dead. Rarely anybody uses Microsoft Word for any serious typesetting with math. Or would it be better to wait till LuaTeX solves the bug? |
That is up to Noto maintainer(s) to decide, but it would be more preferable if LuaTeX were fixed, but someone will need to report it to LuaTeX maintainer(s). |
I see. Thank you for the bug report. I'll file a bug report to LuaTeX. |
The subscripts need kerning in my opinion. Perhaps a cut in can be added at the left top side of the lowercase italic j. The space between k and P, J and j, and J and k can be decreased as well.
