We have a number of issues with the "Idea" label as well as a an "Idea" discussion category here. The issue label was created a long time ago, before there was a robust discussion feature on GitHub. In fact, a great many "Idea" issues are also labeled as "Needs Discussion."
I'm thinking of reviewing all existing ideas, with the notion that they may be transferred to discussions. Perhaps we will be more likely to deal with them here, as opposed to as issues. Ideally, I'm imagining (?) that we would fairly rapidly decide that the idea is either not something we want to do or a feature we would implement. If it becomes a feature (or enhancement, I guess) we would decide whether to put it into some current milestone or a more vague "future" category. Or perhaps keeping things for the indeterminate future is really not of any use and we shouldn't retain ideas we can't put a version number on.
I'd appreciate feedback on this approach to ideas and on the suggested details of how we use it. Of course, that could also vary over time once we get started.
As an example, I have transferred some idea issues to discussions. We can go ahead and try to deal with them here and see how well it works out.
