What version of the Codex App are you using (From "About Codex" dialog)?
26.730.8199.0
What subscription do you have?
Education
What platform is your computer?
Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64
What issue are you seeing?
With the Codex Desktop interface localized in German, the empty text input for a new task displays the English placeholder do anything.
The surrounding app interface remains in German, so the app is still using the configured German locale. This appears to be an isolated missing translation or fallback for the new-task composer placeholder rather than the app switching entirely to English.
This is also a regression: an earlier app version displayed a German placeholder in this field.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Use Codex Desktop with the interface language set to German.
- Open the screen for starting a new task.
- Leave the task composer empty.
- Observe the placeholder text in the input field.
Observed result:
- The placeholder reads
do anything in English.
- Other visible app UI remains in German.
What is the expected behavior?
The new-task composer placeholder should be localized in German, consistent with the rest of the interface and with earlier app versions.
Additional information
I searched the openai/codex issue tracker for the literal do anything and combinations of composer/input placeholder, German, locale, localization, and translation. I did not find an existing report for this specific regression.
There are broader reports about incomplete Chinese localization and separate German localization bugs, but they concern different strings and UI areas.
