Description of issue

I was building Python from scratch (the tip of the main branch in Github) a earlier today and used a very basic configure command, as I was exploring some configuration options, not doing a normal (for me) build. I noticed that configure found pkg-config in /opt/homebrew/bin but didn't find the details necessary to build the gdbm module. This seemed odd, as gdbm is a GNU library (I think). I didn't find a gdbm.pc file anywhere in /opt/homebrew. I'm sure I noticed this at some point in the past, but simply figured out the necessary environment variables and moved on.

Is there a reason there's no pkg-config info for gdbm?

The upstream source package doesn't install a .pc file. If it worked for you at some point, that file probably came from somewhere else.

Thanks. It just seemed odd to me that a GNU package wouldn't use pkg-config. It worked for me because I constructed the relevant environment variables to feed to configure.

It's no big deal.
