bangle.js 2 battery lasting less than a day

so i've never experienced the supposed 2 week battery life, but i did use to get around four days on average. the last few days however i've been charging it in the morning and it's been dead when i wake up the next day. i do use gentle charging, however judging by the battery history it seems to go down slower when i've accidentally charged it to full?
as far as i can remember, the only recent changes are installing the backlite app, changing from the dino clock to my own custom one that's based on the same code but without the weather display, and uninstalling the weather app - all things that i would expect to increase battery life if anything

Wow, that's going down fast! Please could you try connecting with the IDE and running E.getPowerUsage() and paste up what it says? It might give you some info about whether something is running that's using a bunch of power.

Can you just try leaving the watch on charge over night? There's definitely a bit of debate on what's best for the battery, but because the battery charge is worked out on voltage, when the Bangle reports 100% it's not actually fully charged until some time after.

That app says the Bangle buzzes after 15 minutes. But Bangle.js charges at 100mA, and it's a 175mAh battery - so to get a full charge from empty you'll probably need around 2 hours. If you're only charging for 15 minutes each time, you're only really using 15% of your battery capacity.

... but even with that, it could be worth backing up your watch and then doing a factory reset, and then seeing if with more or less default apps the battery life is still low, as it could easily be a software issue, and with such a small charge the battery life could have been made worse by the cold weather recently.

of course the rule of a problem solving itself only once you ask for help kicked in, and after deleting simple music controls it's only gone down 5% in 2 days - no idea if that indicates a problem with that app or just a fluke though. i'll try charging to full instead of 80% and see if that helps too!

That's odd - looking at that app there's nothing that should run unless you have the app running, so even if it had a problem I guess there's not much chance you were running it all the time?

Thanks for checking the power usage - that's all pretty much as I'd expect - definitely nothing that's run the battery down in a day.

One thing to watch out for is I see you're using Gadgetbridge. I think if you have an unread message, the messages widget can start flashing (even though it may not even be visible) and can use power quite quickly - but with that it'd last multiple days.

Had a similar issue, a massive drain like a month ago. A factory reset ("Restore") fixed it.

Some clues that could be useful:

• Before the reset, battery lasted for 2-3 days. After the reset, I estimate it'll last 2-3 weeks again.
• It was definitely not a HW issue, as a factory reset fixed it. I've never done "gentle charging". The bangle is 3.5 years old
• I had apps from the "dev" app loader, then changed to the "main" one. Maybe a conflict, a deprecated app, some leftover configs? Maybe fastload?
• Tip: my storage was getting full, very often. This points to a rogue process. Fixed it "Compacting" every week, but had no time to properly debug, sorry 🙏
• I've been using a few simple apps, to make it last longer. Anton Clock, bluetooth and notifications enabled, but most stuff disabled (no alarm, calendar, GPS, HRM, etc). I'd say after the reset I'm using the same ones, except for fastload
