Thanks for the useful extension.
However for keyboard use it doesn't seem to work so well.
There are commands in the Command Palette from the extension ("File: Select for compare" and "File: Compare with Selected") but they don't seem to do anything, when run from the relevant editor tabs.
I imagine that this means that there's no point binding them to keys.
Would be happy if you could fix that if you have an opportunity to do so; I'm sorry that it's not feasible for me to offer the code improvements myself.

p.s. I imagine that you noticed that VS Code now has a switch-sides button as standard so you could remove the one the extension adds
