Notification of new release causes issues

Bug Description
Notification of new alpha release received. Yes/No dialog prompt. Clicking either will result in UI window closing after several seconds even though the executable is still running.

Steps to Reproduce the Issue

1. Launch application. New alpha release notification dialog displays with Yes/No options.
2. Select either option. After several seconds the application window shows "Not Responding" and then will close leaving the executable still running in the background.
3. There is no ability to start the sync operation at this point.
4. Use Task Manager to end the task.
