Is unowned self just as safe as weak self inside observe?

I've seen the case studies using unowned self inside present in a few places and it got me thinking. Could the weak self + guard self dance be reduced to just unowned self inside observation clauses?

observe { [unowned self] in
  forgetButton.isHidden = model.network.id != model.selectedNetworkID
}

My understanding is that just like with present, observe won't execute outside @MainActor and won't outlive self because it gets removed on deinit, so in theory its safety should be guaranteed... right?
