error - "Could not save Preferences file."

Bug description

When navigating the Examples window, every time I twirl a folder open or closed I get an error popup saying it "Could not save Preferences file."
When changing the Preferences, I do not get the error.
I will note that my Uni keeps many folders very locked down, so I do wonder if it has to do with the location of whatever file keeps track of where you are in the Examples?

Steps to reproduce this

1. Open Examples window

2. twirl open any folder

3. Error pane shows up.
